01How Does TDYHero work?

When you need short term housing, you start by searching your TDY location (military base name) for available properties and select your preferred choice. If you don’t see a property that meets your needs please submit a housing request so TDYHero Concerige Service can go to work on your behalf. We will send you a portfolio of available properties. After your selection, we will send you an agreement, requested security deposit, and connect you directly with your host.

02Do you charge the client?

No. If you’re on TDY orders, there’s no cost to you, ZERO out-of-pocket expenses. We charge only the on base lodging rate for your selected TDY location. If you provide a letter of non-availability, we charge the off-base rate and provide additional PERK$ or customizable upgrades to your property. At the end of each month, you’ll receive an itemized receipt that meets all Joint Travel Regulation (JTR) requirements for guaranteed reimbursement through the Defense Travel System (DTS) or your local finance office.

03Is there a minimum stay?

We mostly focus on TDYs that are greater than 21+ days. Most of our clients stay are greater than 2 months. For short TDYs we may not be able to include cleaning costs in your nightly rate. Please contact us for more information.

04How do I book a property?

After selecting your property on TDYHero or through TDYHero Concerige service, we will have you complete a basic application with details about your upcoming TDY. We will send you a working agreement, refundable deposit request, and then connect you with your Host. Your reservation is not finalized until we receive your refundable deposit.

We understand military orders can change. Your reservation and deposit are protected under the Servicemember Civil Relief Act (SCRA). If your military TDY orders are canceled, your deposit will be fully refunded. If you orders are modified, we will adjust your rental dates accordingly and ensure you are not charged for nights you do not need.

05I just submitted a housing request… now what?

We will reach out to you with a link to complete our basic application requesting details about your upcoming TDY. Once complete we will send you a property portfolio within 72 hours of available properties based on your preferences.

06What if my TDY cancels or I need to leave early?

We understand that military orders can change. We will adjust your rental dates accordingly and ensure you are not charged for nights you do not need. We follow the Servicemember Civil Relief Act (SCRA) which ensures you are protected when renting a TDYHero property. Additionally, we go above and beyond by offering a 100% money back guarantee that your TDY reservation will be fully reimbursed in DTS..

07Why can’t I book directly with a Property Host?

At TDYHero, our top priority is to provide you with a seamless off-base lodging experience during your TDY stay, ensuring zero out-of-pocket expenses and no landlord issues. Navigating TDY travel reimbursement can be complex, requiring strict adherence to the Joint Travel Regulation (JTR) and detailed knowledge of local guidelines and TDY rates. Many service members struggle to secure off-base lodging and often find themselves unprotected, as not all hosts are familiar with military order changes or accept the GTC.

TDYHero serves as the ideal intermediary, advocating for both service members and hosts. We employ former military resource advisors and offer a 100% money back guarantee your stay will be reimbursed in DTS. TDYHero takes care of all the coordination, payments, and receipts between Clients and Hosts. 08Will I have any out-of-pocket expenses?

Not at TDYHero! You’ll never face any out-of-pocket costs with us. From cleaning fees to pet fees, application fees, and even renter’s insurance, we’ve got it covered. Our guarantee is designed to ensure zero out-of-pocket expenses and no non-reimbursed DTS charges.

09Do you provide itemized receipts that meet all JTR and DTS requirements?

Yes, we do! TDYHero provides fully itemized receipts that meet all JTR and DTS requirements, ensuring you’ll have no reimbursement issues during your TDY. We carefully document every charge, avoiding any expenses that aren’t reimbursable. With our JTR expertise, you can stay focused on your TDY, while we handle the details!

10How do you know my TDY allowable nightly lodging rate or per diem?

We keep up-to-date with the latest TDY per diem rates and allowable nightly lodging rates for every military base, so you’ll never face out-of-pocket costs. Our rates adjust automatically with each Fiscal Year update and any changes related to non-availability slips (Non-A), ensuring complete accuracy and convenience for you!

11Can I use my GTC (Government Travel Card)?

Yes, we gladly accept the GTC for your convenience, and we highly recommend using it!

12TDYHero properties have no shared spaces or roommates, right?

Yes! All our properties are stand-alone, private furnished rentals with no roommates or shared spaces. You’ll have the entire property to yourself, ensuring the best possible stay during your TDY.

13Can I stay off-base during my TDY without a Non-A (non-availability) slip?

Absolutely! The Joint Travel Regulation (JTR) allows service members to stay off-base without a Non-A slip. As outlined in JTR Table 2-14, if a service member chooses off-base lodging while adequate government quarters are available, reimbursement is limited to the cost of on-base quarters. We keep it simple by charging the same rate, or less, than on-base lodging at your TDY location, ensuring full compliance with JTR.

Additionally, we understand TDY dates may shift due to changing orders. We fully accommodate any adjustments in your TDY schedule, including holidays or emergency leave, and won’t charge for nights not covered by military reimbursement.

14Do you include any PERKS?

At TDYHero, we’re dedicated to providing exclusive perks tailored to your stay. Depending on the season and length of your reservation, guests often are offereded services like bi-weekly maid service, meal kits from Hello Fresh or Home Chef, grocery delivery, spa and golf packages, EV charging, paddleboards, and more. If you have specific requests, just let us know, we’ll do our best to make it part of your stay at no additional cost. The options are as flexible as your imagination!
