You can select properties featured on our website, or if you don’t find what you’re looking for, simply provide your lodging needs and our Concierge Team will find options for you. Our team will immediately confirm your requirements and coordinate with our hosts, then send you available properties within two business days. Everything is managed directly through your TDY Hero account—no third-party software required.

Everything is handled directly through the TDY Hero platform, so there’s no need for a third-party rental management system. After submitting your Housing Request, simply finish creating your account and complete your basic application. You’ll answer a few additional questions about your TDY so our team can better understand your needs and help match you with the right property. You’ll also have the option to join our affiliate program and earn cash commissions by referring others to TDY Hero, or, if you own a rental property now or in the future, you can choose to list your property with TDY Hero.

Once you’ve completed your Housing Request and application, a TDY Hero representative will contact you within 24 hours to confirm your details and assist with your lodging needs. Our representatives are available Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. EST, and you can always speak with a real person—never a chatbot. We’ll contact you directly from 1-866-405-3693, so you’ll know it’s not a spam call. All of our representatives have professional experience as Resource Advisors, Housing Specialists, or DoD Housing Contract Specialists, giving you access to knowledgeable, personalized support from people who understand military and government travel.

When submitting your Housing Request, you can select up to 10 preferred properties from our website and rank them in priority order from 1–10. This gives our team multiple options in case your first choice is unavailable. Don’t see a property you like? Still submit your request! Our TDY Hero Concierge Team will use your preferences and requirements to create a customized selection of available properties for you.

Once you’ve chosen your ideal property, TDY Hero will send you a rental agreement to review and sign. The agreement outlines the details of your stay, including payment schedules and property terms.

To secure the property for your selected dates, you’ll submit a refundable deposit. If your military orders change or are canceled, the deposit remains fully refundable in accordance with the Service Member Civil Relief Act (SCRA). This provides flexibility and peace of mind when military obligations change. Plus, no cleaning fees for stays greater than 45 days!

After signing the agreement and submitting the deposit, TDY Hero will connect you directly with your Host, who will provide you with welcome instructions and access details, such as door codes, wifi codes, etc. This works much like any other professional short-term rental platform, allowing you to settle in with ease.

All payments are handled securely through the TDY Hero platform. TDY Hero is a preferred Citi Government Travel Card (GTC) merchant, making it easy to use your GTC for lodging payments. You can also pay your refundable deposit and other charges using ACH bank transfers, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, credit or debit cards, and other accepted payment methods.

Your first month’s payment is due seven days before check-in. If you book within that seven-day window, your first payment is due immediately. If your stay extends beyond one month, rent is collected one month in advance, with each following month due on the 24th of the preceding month (for example, October’s rent is due September 24). Submitting payment before your actual check-in date will NOT affect reimbursement in DTS.

TDY Hero is committed to making military lodging reimbursement simple and transparent. There are no booking fees or service fees, and all utilities are included. Cleaning fees are generally included depending on the location and are always included for stays longer than 45 days. Our goal is simple: you only pay what the government will reimburse you for—no unexpected out-of-pocket expenses, unnecessary fees, or additional utility costs. You’ll also receive itemized receipts to support your DTS and JTR reimbursement requirements.

At the end of your stay, the checkout process is simple and straightforward. After the property is inspected, your refundable deposit will be returned directly to you. This process is typically prompt, ensuring that you receive your deposit within 7 business days after completing your stay.

Throughout the entire process, TDY Hero manages everything online. From agreements and payments to receipts and property details, all transactions and documentation are handled through the TDY Hero platform. This not only offers transparency but also allows for a stress-free, easily manageable experience for military members.
